# CO2-Mute

The European Union has set ambitious targets for CO2 emissions reduction by 2030 to address climate change and pollution levels. The modern transportation sector, a major contributor to environmental impacts, particularly air pollution and CO2 emissions, is a key focus area for mitigation initiatives. CO2-Mute addresses these challenges by supporting local governments in deploying policies for sustainable mobility and urban green infrastructure.

CO2-Mute aims to reduce environmental pollution by gamifying alternative mobility usage and improving green spaces roles in pollution mitigation. To achieve this, CO2-Mute relies on various data sources and custom algorithms to calculate the estimated impact of traffic reduction on air pollutant concentrations.

CO2-Mute leverages the [iSHARE Trust Framework](https://ishare.eu/home/about/trust-framework/) for heterogeneous data sharing within its architecture, alongside the [FIWARE Data Model](https://fiware-datamodels.readthedocs.io/en/stable/), which enables the submission of analysed data to the CO2-Mute Marketplace. These policies are submitted to the Authorisation Registries of the Data Owner for accessibility by the application provider. Each organisation needs to be onboarded as a certified member to ensure compliance with the [iSHARE specifications](https://dev.ishare.eu).
